OpenCursor / Void alternative
Void is archived. An open source alternative
Void was a popular open source AI editor built on VS Code. Its repository is now archived and its README says the project is deprecated, so it gets no more fixes or updates. If you liked Void, OpenCursor is close in spirit and actively maintained.

What Void users will recognise
- A full editor built on the open source core of VS Code, not an extension.
- Your own API keys, sent straight to the provider with no server in between.
- Local models through Ollama and LM Studio.
- Agent chat, edits in place, Tab completion and checkpoints.
What OpenCursor adds
- Use a Claude or ChatGPT plan you already pay for, through Claude Code or Codex.
- Free models: OpenCode's free models with no account, and 18 free tier models with Free (auto).
- Agent, Plan, Debug and Ask modes, MCP servers,
AGENTS.mdandCLAUDE.mdrules. - Builds for macOS, Windows and Linux on Intel and Arm, with automatic updates.
Moving over
Install OpenCursor, import your settings and keybindings from VS Code, and add the same API keys or Ollama address you used in Void. Your projects need no changes.
